about

Continuing a remarkable series of dub fusion EPs for Woodwork, Riddim Fernandez digs deeper into his inspiring flow, while gently and purposefully expanding the sonic scope.

'Inna Life' is the perfect set-up track, obligatory to any Riddim Fernandez joint. This one accomplishes an ideal introduction with dark, mysterious vibes and a percussive onslaught that supports the atmosphere without dominating.

'Right About Now' propels a laid back feel through an exciting blend of liquid drum n bass elements met with classic jungle subs and snares... that sweet spot between serenity and explosive energy.

The Riddim Fernandez sound has possibly reached a new pinnacle with 'Fade to Dark', flipping all the switches with its delightful trippy and smokey sound, dubbed out half time breaks, gentle swelling effects and sweet, dark minimalist melodic fragments.

'Distributed Frequencies' leaves a scorch mark with its deep fusion of rolling junglist feels connected to skanking half time beats and bass theatrics... a prime example of that Riddim Fernandez chameleon production flair, somehow showing off an array of colours in a seamless and easy style.

'Parallel Intersections' is one more to file under eclectic beats. A meeting of lo fi, downtempo chill, and dark, dirty dub, again with a variety of rhythms that trade off seamlessly under some lovely minimal piano melodies and hollowed out, haunting chord structures.

'Why Ya Wanna Act Like Dat' blends deep dub techno synth layers under monstrous swells and echoes, with glitchy flourishes of vocal hooks, all intricately worked into an intense routine over a safety net of electrified half time percussion.

This note perfect EP closes out with a trippy alternate rendition of the title track. The beauty of the original version is taken to a new level with the addition of a lost, haunting vocal layer.

about

riddim fernandez Whistler, British Columbia

Riddim Fernandez started out making & performing beats using an old groove box with live hand drumming, soon progressing as a vinyl DJ & then onto electronic music production. He now uses analog drum machines, synths, & guitar FX to craft his own dub goodness. Riddim is into all things funky & melodic, rooted in 90s hiphop while loving the mellower dubstep, but will remain a junglist at heart. ... more
